Police in the Moravian-Silesian Region have released video of a night-time chase: an Audi driver at up to 240 km/h fled a patrol from Havířov all the way to Ostrava. The incident took place last week; officers did not give the exact date.
According to police spokeswoman Nicole Bočková, Havířov patrol officers decided to check the car at night. They switched on the flashing lights and the “Stop Police” sign, but the driver did not stop and began to accelerate. When it became clear he had no intention of braking and was heading toward Ostrava, colleagues from Ostrava were called in to help.
In Ostrava, the driver began weaving through narrow streets. In the Kunčičky district he drove into a petrol station, abandoned the car and ran toward the woods, but a fence blocked his way. Officers detained the man immediately.
A database check showed that he was subject to a ban on driving any motor vehicles. His alcohol test was negative, but he refused to be tested for drugs and psychotropic substances.
He has been named a suspect in a misdemeanour — obstructing the execution of an official decision. If found guilty, he faces up to two years in prison.
