Man Spends Eight Hours Trapped in Portable Toilet Tank After Diving in for a Dropped Can of Soda

In Kansas City, USA, a man spent roughly eight hours stuck inside the waste tank of a portable toilet after trying to retrieve a can of Mountain Dew that had fallen in. The bizarre incident occurred on Monday, July 13, in the city centre, shortly after an event tied to the FIFA World Cup had wrapped up nearby.

According to American media, eight portable toilets had been set up on the square for the occasion, and a specialised company was scheduled to collect them the following day. The job of dismantling the units fell to a worker named Eddie Beharano. Before hauling the cabins away, he went around knocking on each one, warning that anyone still inside needed to come out within a few minutes.

No one responded — except for strange noises coming from one of the units. Soon, a man's voice called out that he couldn't get out on his own. Beharano flagged down a passing police officer, and together they pried the door open. At first it looked empty, but then the toilet seat lid lifted, and a hand emerged from the opening — it turned out the man had climbed entirely inside the waste tank.

The victim, whose name has not been released, insisted he was unable to free himself, so firefighters were called in. Given the delicate nature of the situation, rescuers proceeded carefully, first cutting only a small opening in the cabin wall — though a spill of the tank's contents proved unavoidable.

When firefighters suggested he poke his head through the hole to climb out, the man snapped back in frustration: "I can't, you idiot!" One of the rescuers calmly replied, "Well, I might be the idiot, but you're the one sitting in that filthy toilet."

According to U.S. reports, the cabin ultimately had to be cut open even further, and after about eight hours, the man was finally freed from the foul-smelling tank. Fortunately for him, firefighters hosed him down on the spot with water from their own tanker to clean him up at least a little.

The rescued man later explained that he had simply been trying to retrieve a can of Mountain Dew that he himself had accidentally dropped into the toilet. How he managed to squeeze his entire body through such a relatively narrow opening, however, seems to remain a mystery even to him.
