Czech Nightingale Hall of Fame: Nedvěd brothers to be inducted

Brothers Jan and František Nedvěd will be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Czech Nightingale awards. The gala evening, which will be broadcast live, takes place at Prague's Forum Karlín concert hall, the organizers of the music awards have announced.

The lineup includes singers Ewa Farna, Eva Sája Burešová, Markéta Irglová, Zea and Tereza Mašková. On the men's side, Vojtěch Dyk, Janek Ledecký, Sofian Medjmedj, Adam Mišík and last year's Discovery of the Year winner Renne Dang will take the stage. The bands will be Monkey Business and Mirai.

What the Nedvěd brothers are known for

Jan and František Nedvěd are leading figures of the Czech folk scene and the tramp song tradition. In the 1970s they performed with the groups Brontosauři and Spirituál kvintet, and since 1988 as a successful duo.

A major milestone in their career was a sold-out concert on 21 June 1996 at Prague's Strahov Stadium, which, according to the organizers, drew around 70,000 people. The duo's biggest hits include “Stánky”, “Podvod”, “Růže z papíru”, “Valčíček” and “Na kameni kámen”. František Nedvěd died in 2021.

Pepe Majeský, the creative producer and director of the broadcast, said the brothers are “an example of how Czech songwriting can bring together generations, people and entire stories”. In his words, their songs have become part of the country's musical and public memory and resonate even with listeners who don't usually listen to folk. Today a younger generation is rediscovering them too.

How the voting works

The Czech Nightingale results are decided by the fans themselves, by voting on the awards' website. In the Male Singer, Female Singer, Band and Hip-hop and Rap categories, each voter can choose up to six performers. At the same time, four nominees in the Discovery of the Year category are competing for the audience's favor.
