The Czech Ministry of the Environment (MŽP) will receive 20.96 billion crowns in spending for 2027 — about half a billion more than this year — according to the draft state budget.
Under the draft, staff salaries at the ministry are set to take up about 1.37 billion crowns, compared with 1.27 billion this year. The state is allocating the ministry more than 371 million crowns for science, research and innovation — almost 11 million more than in 2026.
Nature and landscape protection is allocated 2.51 billion crowns — 55 million less than this year. Spending on climate and air protection, by contrast, will rise by almost 285 million crowns to around 8.19 billion crowns.
Subsidies to the State Environmental Fund will shrink under the draft to almost 932 million crowns, down from 1.15 billion this year. Expenditure co-financed in full or in part from the EU budget (excluding the Common Agricultural Policy) is projected at 15.53 billion crowns next year, against 15.20 billion this year.
The deficit in the approved draft budget is expected to reach 386 billion crowns — the second-highest figure in the history of independent Czechia. In late August, the Ministry of Finance had proposed a deficit of 389 billion crowns. This year's approved deficit stands at 310 billion crowns.
