NATO unveils new plan to repel a Russian attack on Europe

NATO has prepared a strategy for a possible Russian attack: the allies intend to stop an invasion right at the outset. General Grynkewich said so in an interview with an American newspaper. The “theory of victory” combines conventional weapons with “affordable mass” — autonomous systems, drones and electronic warfare assets designed to sustain a prolonged war of attrition.

According to Grynkewich, the plan has three steps. First, allied forces would immediately “block” an attack at the border, preventing the enemy from seizing territory. Then they would “blunt” the Russian offensive by striking advancing troops from the air, sea and land. Finally, if the attack continued, they would “break” the enemy by targeting supplies, communication links and command networks that keep troops fighting at the front — up to the point of the aggressor's collapse.

The general stressed, however, that the alliance does not consider a confrontation with Russia “imminent or inevitable,” despite Russian sabotage, arson, cyberattacks and disinformation meant to “shake Europe's resolve and cut off arms supplies to Ukraine.” In his words, NATO has no interest in occupying Russian territory. By strictly limiting its goal to the tactical and operational neutralization of the adversary, the alliance wants to deny it any pretext for escalation and place moral and strategic responsibility for widening the war squarely on the aggressor.
