Brno city officials have prepared a new concept intended to improve conditions for trees in the city centre. The document will be binding for departments of the city hall and the organisations it funds.
For trees in the centre to grow long and healthy, they need enough room for their roots, access to water and suitable conditions. In densely built-up neighbourhoods all of this is often lacking, noted Brno deputy mayor for the environment Filip Chvátal (KDU-ČSL). According to him, trees must be considered from the very start of preparing every project, not when its design is practically finished. The concept will help take their needs into account better and create an environment where trees can grow to their full size.
The Brno-střed city district and municipal trading companies will be recommended to follow the concept. According to the city, the pilot project for the new approach to planting trees was last year’s renewal of the avenue on Orlí street.
