An impatient SUV driver in Kyjov (South Moravia) put a child’s safety at risk: he overtook a stopped bus right at a pedestrian crossing just as a girl was walking across. The incident was captured by the bus’s dashcam, and the police have released the footage.
The bus driver stopped before the crossing to let the girl through; she had been looking along the road. The girl waved in thanks and set off across, but soon had to pick up her pace sharply: an SUV suddenly appeared on the left of the frame, confidently overtaking the bus, and over a solid line at that. “I can’t believe it, there’s a girl on the crossing and he started overtaking,” the bus driver said of the manoeuvre.
According to police spokeswoman Kateřina Batelková, it was raining at the time, which worsened driving conditions and lengthened braking distances. The driver also ignored the “Caution, children” sign. Traffic police in Hodonín are handling the case: in administrative proceedings the suspected driver faces a fine of up to CZK 25,000 and six penalty points.
