Boxer dies 11 years after falling into a vegetative state from illegal blows in the ring

Boxer Prichard Colón has died after spending almost eleven years in a vegetative state. His father, Richard Colón, announced his son's death on Thursday: "Good morning, my dear ones. I am sorry to inform you that my son Prichard has left this mortal world. He is now in a better place."

The tragedy occurred during a boxing match against Terrell Williams. According to the family, his opponent repeatedly struck Colón with illegal blows to the back of the head, causing a brain hemorrhage. After the fight ended, the boxer lost consciousness and never woke up again.

A billion-koruna lawsuit

The Colón family filed a lawsuit against the ringside doctor and the fight's organizers, seeking $50 million in damages (more than a billion Czech koruna). According to the BBC, the case is still ongoing.

The road to the professional ring

Prichard Colón was born in Florida and moved to Puerto Rico at the age of ten, where he began his boxing career. As a young fighter, he won national titles in two weight classes at once. He entered the fateful bout undefeated, with a record of 16 wins, 13 of them by knockout.
