Fejes, Pardubice title hero, retires from hockey on medical advice

Pardubice title hero Fejes retires on doctors’ advice

Six months after the championship title, Dynamo Pardubice forward Fejes is being forced to end his career on doctors’ advice. Doctors do not recommend that he continue, and the 32-year-old American, who four years ago successfully beat a cancer of the lymphatic system, has decided to leave because of other health problems.

Fejes joined Pardubice last December from Prešov in Slovakia — at first for a month of help. He showed himself well at Dynamo, after which the club exercised its option through the end of the season. For the East Bohemian club he played 24 games including the playoffs, scoring three goals and adding two assists. And most importantly, he won the title with Dynamo.

He stood out especially in the sixth game of the final, when he made it 1:1. Partly thanks to him, Dynamo won 5:4 in overtime in Třinec and became Extraliga champions for the seventh time.

This season he has played just one Extraliga game for Pardubice and four in the Champions Hockey League. To get more game time, Fejes went to Zlín on a short-term loan, but because of health problems he did not play a single game there. In his career he spent five seasons in the AHL farm league and, besides Slovakia, played in Austria and Sweden.
