Provod and Trpišovský crowned Czech football's best again — Sparta left almost empty-handed

On Wednesday evening, in an unusual setting — a former factory hall in Libčice nad Vltavou — the Czech Football League Association held its awards ceremony for the 2025/2026 season. The star of the night was Slavia Prague and national team midfielder Lukáš Provod, named the league's best player.

For the 29-year-old, it's his second such award — he first won it back in the 2020/2021 season. "It's a great honour for me to receive this award. It means a lot that I can be here together with several teammates and our coach — it just confirms how successful this season was," Provod said.

According to the vote organisers, Provod's win puts Slavia further ahead as the club with the most players named league MVP: since the award was established in 2014, Slavia representatives have now won it six times, compared to five for Sparta and two for Plzeň.

Slavia manager Jindřich Trpišovský was named Coach of the Season for the second year running, though the competition was much tighter this time — he narrowly edged out Hradec Králové's David Horejš, whose side finished fifth, just four points behind third-placed Plzeň.

Sparta's delegation, meanwhile, left with only one prize — Slovak midfielder Lukáš Haraslín was named the league's best foreign player. There had been talk that his teammate Hugo Sochůrek might be crowned Newcomer of the Season, but the award instead went to Ermin Mahmić of Liberec's Komet side, who also shone at the World Cup.

As in previous years, the winners were chosen by a vote of coaches, team captains and selected journalists. One curious detail: in the accompanying fan vote, the most popular pick wasn't Provod or Trpišovský, but Hradec Králové goalkeeper Adam Zadražil. Under normal circumstances he would have attended the ceremony in person, but like his club's coach, he was in Norway at the time for a Europa League qualifying round.
