NATO fighter jets took off on Friday afternoon over Polish airspace as Russia again attacked targets in western Ukraine with drones. No violation of the Polish border was recorded.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, whose statement was published on Telegram, Russian drones appeared over the cities of Kovel, Rivne and Vinnytsia. Some of the drones from the Vinnytsia region continued farther west into the Chernivtsi region, while others headed toward the Khmelnytskyi region.
“In connection with new attacks by the Russian Federation on targets in western Ukraine using drones, military aviation is operating in Polish airspace,” Poland’s Operational Command said on the social network X. It added that air defense and radar reconnaissance systems are also on alert. These measures are preventive and aimed at protecting Polish airspace, primarily in areas bordering the threatened regions.
Warsaw scrambled jets both overnight into Friday and again on Friday morning, which is not common. In neither case was Polish airspace violated.
