Trump threatens Kyiv: no intelligence sharing or arms purchases

Trump threatens Kyiv with an end to intelligence sharing and a freeze on arms purchases

The United States has threatened Kyiv that it will stop sharing intelligence and freeze arms purchases. According to US media, the warning from the State Department and the Pentagon reached not only the leadership of the Ukrainian army and the government in Kyiv over the weekend, but also senior representatives of European countries.

The head of the White House claims that the global rise in oil prices is driven by the war between Ukraine and Russia, not by the war against Iran, which has badly hit global oil supplies because of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Recently, Trump has sharply criticized Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil infrastructure: in his words, President Volodymyr Zelensky “should damn well stop it.” On Saturday, the US president even said it was time for Ukrainians to change their president.

On Friday, Trump announced that he had struck a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin: Russia will immediately supply the American and global markets with more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel (about 2.2 million barrels). It is to be followed by 500,000 tonnes in November, and by another million right after that.

Observers believe that he is counting on this to bring down diesel prices ahead of the November congressional elections, where high fuel prices are a major issue for many voters. Daily diesel consumption in the US is almost four million barrels, or more than 500,000 tonnes.
