Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that in October Russia suffered its heaviest losses since the start of the war. He named October 21 as the worst day for Russian troops: in a single day, he said, they lost 2,250 soldiers.
To illustrate the scale, Zelensky compared Russia’s October losses to nine military parades on Red Square, 200 Moscow metro cars or the entire population of Chukotka.
In addition, according to the Ukrainian president, Ukrainian forces liberated 96.2 square kilometres of occupied territory in October. That is 10.4 square kilometres more than Russian troops gained over the same period.
“Russia is taking losses. We are holding our positions, liberating territory and making sure that every day of the war costs the aggressor as much as possible. All Russia has to do to stop these insane losses is to choose a ceasefire and diplomacy,” Zelensky wrote.
