Liberec (German: Reichenberg) works as a day trip or a weekend: the bus from Prague takes 1 h 15 min (from Praha-Černý Most), the trilex train from Dresden 2 h 5 min without a change. Know this first: the big cabin cable car up Ještěd (Jeschken) has been out of service since the end of October 2021, and a replacement is not expected before 2029. You get up by car, on foot or on the Skalka chairlift. The ski season is planned to start on 12 December 2026, with an online day pass from 380 CZK (about 16 EUR). In town, one day covers the town hall, the Lázně gallery and a family stop such as the zoo or iQLANDIA. Around Prague checked prices, hours and connections on official websites and in IDOS on 3 November 2026.

What a day in Liberec looks like

Thursday works best, because from October to December the town hall admits individual visitors only on Thursdays. Example: bus at 8:00 from Černý Most (arrive 9:15), town hall tour at 10:00, then the Lázně gallery, the zoo or iQLANDIA in the afternoon, bus back at 17:40 (arrive 19:05). Several sights close at 16:00 in November.

Ještěd (Jeschken): cable car, hotel and ski area

The 1,012 m mountain carries a transmitter tower with a hotel and restaurant by Karel Hubáček, a national cultural monument. Status on 3 November:

Ještěd lift pass 2026/27

The area has 33 ha of slopes, three cable cars and five ski lifts. Lifts run 8:30 to 16:00 according to the operator, evening skiing 18:00 to 21:00; the 12 December start depends on snow. Buy online in the operator's shop (gopass.travel); prices are dynamic, the earlier the cheaper. On 3 November:

The town hall resembles Vienna City Hall and has been a national cultural monument since 2023. Until 28 March 2027 the gallery shows the Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, his first solo show in Czechia; under-15s get in free. The zoo and the botanical garden are in Lidové sady: trams have not run there since 20 June 2026, and replacement buses X2 and X3 start at Fügnerova. The zoo says the road through Lidové sady and Sovova is closed until 20 December.

Tram to Jablonec nad Nisou

Line 11 runs from Fügnerova to Jablonec nad Nisou (Tyršovy sady) in about 29 minutes, every 15 to 30 minutes by day on 5 and 8 November (IDOS). A paper ticket costs 44 CZK (22 CZK reduced), 50 CZK from the driver. Liberec's 60-minute and 24-hour city tickets are not valid on this line.
