Czech actress Elizaveta Maximova has received the best actress prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards in Seoul. She won it for her role as a mother with an intellectual disability in the TV film “Mama” directed by Jiří Strach.
“I am sincerely glad that my work has been noticed abroad as well, but I am even happier that our rather intimate Czech story about a mother with an intellectual disability and her daughter has managed to touch people on the other side of the world,” Maximova said of the award.
In the film she played Lilian. For the same work the actress was nominated for a Czech Lion, but the prize went to Kateřina Falbrová for the film “The Choirmaster”.
Last year the award went to Cate Blanchett for the psychological series Disclaimer and South Korean actress Kim Min-ha for the second season of Pachinko. This year a record 352 projects from 46 countries and regions entered the competition.
The Seoul International Drama Awards is one of the world’s notable showcases of television drama. It appeared about twenty years ago and aims to find diverse works, from large-scale productions to low-budget projects.
The success of “Mama” continues, but Maximova is already busy with new projects. She recently finished filming the fairy tale “The Lazy Kingdom”, where she plays the main villain, as well as the crime series “The Burnt Mountain” for prima+. The actress also performs in the award-winning one-woman show PSYCHOdrama.
