Eighteen-year-old Matěj, a grammar school student from Stříbro who started making videos at the age of 11, is getting his own nature documentary series on Nova. It premieres this Sunday morning, and in the first episode he follows the trail of wild boar.
“I still can’t believe this is happening. But it’s a dream come true,” he admitted. The essence hasn’t changed: “I’m still a guy who goes out into nature and wants to share his passion. I’ve just grown up a bit.”
His videos from Czech nature and expeditions abroad are watched by hundreds of thousands of followers across generations. According to him, monthly reach is around five million views. “I’m glad, but it’s also a huge responsibility to others,” he said. His main partner is his father, who took him fishing and into the woods from childhood: “Dad is my main role model in life.”
He speaks about the series with excitement: “I’m nervous about how viewers will receive it. But I’m very grateful for the chance: you can’t tell a long story on social media.” In the first episode he wants to show unknown and half-forgotten places and track down a lone wild boar.
Despite his love of life in the wild, he says he was especially glad to return to school because of his friends: final exams are ahead, and he wants to spend the last year with his class. With classmates he has already gone on an off-grid hike, where they cooked over a campfire and slept under the open sky. After grammar school Matěj dreams of studying law, but he will keep creating. The first season has six episodes, and if it succeeds, filming will continue.
