Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has ruled out running for president of Czechia again in the future. He told journalists at the ANO election headquarters after the Senate and municipal elections.

In the last presidential election in 2023, Babiš lost the runoff to the current president, Petr Pavel. The next election of the head of state will take place in 2028; Pavel has not yet definitively confirmed whether he will seek re-election.

The prime minister did not want to speculate about other possible ANO candidates. First deputy chairman of the movement Karel Havlíček added that ANO is currently focused on running the country and seeing through what it has set out to do.

Babiš and other members of the government have repeatedly called Pavel the leader of the opposition. The prime minister has mentioned the possibility of fielding a joint candidate of the ANO, SPD and Motorists coalition. In January, at the ANO congress, he said that the discussion about a possible joint candidate should begin early next year.
