Czech tennis player Siniaková and China’s Zhang Shuai lost the doubles final in Beijing. The top-seeded pair fell to second seeds Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Luisa Stefani of Brazil, 1-6, 2-6. The match lasted just 61 minutes.
Siniaková, 30, was denied an addition to the seven doubles trophies she has won this season. Twice she triumphed with Zhang Shuai, who is seven years her senior. She took the other titles with American Taylor Townsend: in September they won the US Open, completing a career Grand Slam together in New York.
In the singles final in Beijing today, Russia’s Mirra Andreeva, who beat Czech Nikola Bartůňková in the semifinal, will face local star Zheng Qinwen. The prize fund for the women’s hard-court tournament is $9,415,725.
