Sparta hosts Třinec in round 12 of the Czech hockey Extraliga

Sparta host Třinec in the headline game of Extraliga hockey round 12

All eyes in round 12 of the Czech hockey Extraliga are on Prague, where Sparta host league leaders Třinec. On Friday the Praguers won 2-0 in Plzeň, having beaten Vítkovice before that, and they go into the headline game with two straight wins and two straight shutouts. Třinec, after their first defeat of the season, at Pardubice, bounced straight back and comfortably beat Mladá Boleslav 3-0 at home. The team still tops the table and has dropped only two points in ten games.

Mladá Boleslav will try to make up for Friday’s defeat in Třinec. Before that they beat Litvínov 2-1 at home, but now they face Hradec Králové, who had one more day to prepare. On Thursday the team won 4-1 in Litvínov and remains in the top four of the table.

Plzeň want to forget quickly the 0-2 home loss to Sparta, which ended their unbeaten run on home ice. Vítkovice, who lost 1-3 to České Budějovice on Friday for their fifth defeat in a row, offer a good chance.

Olomouc against Pardubice only looks simple on paper. On Friday Olomouc were thrashed 0-5 at home by Karlovy Vary, their sixth straight defeat. Pardubice recently became the first team this season to beat Třinec (5-4 in overtime) and are right behind the leader.

České Budějovice had a good Friday: a 3-1 win in Vítkovice after a 4-3 home win over Liberec. Kladno, by contrast, were left without points for the second time in a row, losing 1-2 at home to Brno, and will travel to South Bohemia looking to return to winning ways. Brno took three points thanks to two goals from Robert Lane and want to confirm that success at home against Liberec, who recently lost 3-4 in České Budějovice after thrashing Karlovy Vary 5-0.

The round will close with Litvínov against Karlovy Vary. On Thursday Litvínov lost 1-4 at home to Hradec Králové, their second defeat in a row, while Karlovy Vary thrashed Olomouc 5-0 on Friday after a 3-1 win over Kladno and are again heading to the north of Czechia on a wave of success.
