American woman who survived execution discharged from hospital and returned to prison

A 50-year-old American woman, Pike, who survived her execution, has been discharged from the hospital. According to her lawyers, she is back at the Debra K. Johnson women's prison. The news was reported by CBS News.

“She is grateful to the first responders and her medical team for their care in these extraordinary circumstances. She continues to receive medical treatment in prison, and we will keep monitoring her recovery,” her lawyers added.

The woman was convicted of murdering her classmate Colleen Slemmer back in 1995. After being rescued, she began walking on Wednesday, and over the following days her condition kept improving.

During the September 30 execution, Pike survived two lethal doses of pentobarbital and was then in critical condition. After the failed execution she was hospitalized. She became the first person to survive a lethal injection during an execution.
