The former leaders of Serbia and Hungary, Aleksandar Vučić and Viktor Orbán, have recorded a joint video after both lost elections. Vučić posted the clip with the caption “Viktor and I. A story of friends” and ended it with the words “We will return.”
The politicians met at an unspecified time at the home of Vučić’s father near Belgrade and confirmed that they will keep supporting each other. “Yes, we both lost elections recently, but we have not lost our dignity, our pride or our faith,” Vučić said in the video.
Orbán replied: “True friends become even closer in hard times. And you can be sure, Aleksandar, that I am always on your side.” He also wished the Serbian people all the best.
Both politicians noted that relations between Serbia and Hungary improved while they were in power. “It was a great success, and we are determined to continue,” Orbán said. Vučić ended the video by pointing his index finger at the camera.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico personally backed Vučić ahead of Serbia’s parliamentary election. After Vučić’s defeat, Fico did not comment on the Serbian results.
