Karolína Koťanová and Filip Kominek met before they even started university in Denmark, and they have been inseparable ever since — living, traveling and building a business together. Their project Levně po světě has gathered more than 350,000 followers on social media and grown into a full-fledged company that teaches people to travel independently and save on flights and accommodation.
The story began without investors or a financial safety net — just personal savings from part-time jobs. The couple moved to Denmark to study marketing management, and to cover the high cost of living and qualify for a state scholarship, both combined their studies with work from their very first month: Koťanová took jobs in a café and did some modeling, while Kominek worked as a chef in a sushi restaurant.
When Denmark tightened its rules for international students, the couple finished their studies at a private university in London. That was when the idea of remote work that would let them live in exotic countries first came to them. After investing in a social media growth course, it took them three attempts to find their niche — practical advice for Czechs on budget travel with minimal luggage.
The first year was tough: three videos a day, filming stories and editing footage at three in the morning before morning classes at university. The effort paid off — the Levně po světě profile grew rapidly, and the industry portal MediaGuru named it the “breakthrough of the year” among Czech social media accounts.
Today the couple’s business rests on several pillars: a paid community on the HeroHero platform with more than 700 members, individual vacation planning through their own website, e-books, printed travel diaries, and brand partnerships. Koťanová and Kominek now work from Southeast Asia, currently based in Bali, from where they continue creating content and growing their Czech project.
