Yes, Olomouc works well as a day trip from Prague. Direct trains take 2 h 11 min to 2 h 33 min and a one-way ticket costs from 199 CZK on RegioJet or about 250–350 CZK on ČD. Go between Wednesday and Sunday, because the Archdiocesan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art close on Mondays and Tuesdays. The squares, the UNESCO-listed Holy Trinity Column and the cathedral stay open in winter, so November is no problem here. Christmas markets run from 22 November to 24 December 2026. Around Prague checked trains in IDOS and hours and prices on official sites on 2 November 2026.

Where is Olomouc and why go?

Olomouc is a city in Moravia, in the east of Czechia, about 3 hours from Prague by car. It is a former royal capital with two large squares, Baroque fountains and a cathedral with the tallest church tower in Moravia. Its Holy Trinity Column has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000. Everything in the centre is walkable, which is why one day is enough.
