Petřín Hill Prague 2026: Funicular, Tower and How to Get There

Petřín is the wooded hill above Malá Strana with Prague's small Eiffel Tower on top. The funicular from Újezd is back after a two-year rebuild: it runs daily 7:00–22:15 and a ride costs CZK 100, while Petřín Tower costs CZK 250. Both were open on 2 November 2026, but the tower closes on 7–14 November and the funicular on 10–13 November. Around Prague checked prices, hours and rules on the official websites on 2 November 2026.

If you are in Prague on 10–13 November, you will have to walk up, and you will not get into the tower. We found no closure notice for the gardens, and the Mirror Maze shuts only on 12 November. For a rough conversion, EUR 1 was CZK 24.35 on 2 November 2026.

Prague City Tourism gives 7–14 November as the tower closure, so it should reopen on Sunday 15 November. That date is our reading, not an announcement.

Petřín funicular: tickets and stops

The line climbs 509 m from Újezd to Petřín, rises 126 m and takes a little over three minutes. Two new fourth-generation cars with more glass went into service on 22 September 2026. Trams 9, 12, 15, 20, 22 and 23 stop at Újezd.

Our calculation: up and down costs CZK 200 in single tickets, so a CZK 150 day ticket wins if you ride both ways, and it covers your trams too.

How to get up Petřín without the funicular

PID publishes three routes for days when the funicular is out of service:

RouteHowClimb
SteepWalk straight up from Újezd through the gardens, about 30 minutesabout 130 m
GentleTram 22 or 23 to Pohořelec, then on foot past Strahov Monastery to the tower; some surfaces are uneven43 m
Almost levelBus 143 or 149 to Koleje Strahov from Dejvická (metro A) or Malovanka; trolleybus 53 or bus 176 to Stadion Strahov from Karlovo náměstí (metro B); or bus 191 from Anděl (metro B). A nearly flat path past the university halls leads to the toweralmost none

By our map estimate, Pohořelec to the tower is about 1 km. PID calls the gentle route suitable for families with children.

Petřín Tower: tickets, lift and hours

The tower went up in 1891 as a free copy of the Eiffel Tower at 1:5 scale. It stands 58.70 m tall, with 299 steps to the viewing cabin at 51 m. Because of the hill, its top sits at the same altitude as the real Eiffel Tower's.

What to see on Petřín

Our suggested half-day: ride up, climb the tower, try the maze, walk through the Rose Garden, then come down through the Seminary Garden to Malá Strana. Allow two to three hours; that is our estimate. To carry on to Prague Castle, head for Strahov instead. See our booking guide for what needs tickets ahead.

Prague Visitor Pass

The Prague Visitor Pass covers the funicular, Petřín Tower with the lift, the Mirror Maze and the Štefánik Observatory.
