Agriculture Minister Appoints South Bohemian Governor to Budvar's Supervisory Board

Agriculture Minister Martin Šebestyán has appointed South Bohemian Region Governor Martin Kuba to the supervisory board of the state-owned brewery Budvar. According to the Commercial Register, Kuba has held the seat since August 19.

The governor explained his appointment by noting that the brewery is located within South Bohemia and is on the verge of major investments — including the expansion of its visitor centre. “This concerns a state enterprise operating in the South Bohemian Region. The company is facing a significant investment, for example in expanding the visitor centre,” Kuba said.

An Agreement with the Minister

The governor admitted that his appointment had been discussed directly with Minister Šebestyán. “The minister and I agreed that it would benefit the founder to have a representative of local government directly on the supervisory board,” Kuba explained.

The Ministry of Agriculture holds the authority to appoint members of Budvar's supervisory board. As part of the reshuffle, former ODS election manager Jan Kochí and TOP 09's South Bohemian representative Miroslav Nosek left the board.

Until now, no governor of the South Bohemian Region had ever served on Budvar's supervisory board — making Kuba's appointment the first of its kind.
