BMW convertible flies into ditch near Přerov, driver airlifted by helicopter

A serious crash occurred on the slip road from the motorway onto first-class road No. 55 towards Kokory and Olomouc, near Přerov. A BMW convertible ran off the road and slammed into a ditch — according to police, both occupants of the car were injured, with the driver and his female passenger taken to hospital.

Police spokesman Libor Hejtman said the driver, heading from the motorway junction towards Kokory, lost control due to inappropriate speed while negotiating a right-hand bend near the junction to Rokytnice. The car was thrown into the oncoming lane before crashing into the ditch on the left side of the road.

Investigators estimate the damage caused by the accident at half a million crowns. Police confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

Rescuers cut the injured man out of the car

By the time firefighters arrived, paramedics were already tending to one of the injured. According to firefighters' post on X, the second victim remained trapped inside the vehicle and had to be freed using battery-powered hydraulic rescue tools.

Once extricated, the driver was handed over to the crew of the air ambulance helicopter service. Medics suspected a spinal injury and flew him to the University Hospital in Olomouc.

The female passenger, who suffered chest bruising from her seatbelt, was taken by ambulance to the surgical department of Přerov Hospital.
