Brno Set for First Top-Flight Derby in Almost 90 Years

Brno is about to witness a top-flight derby between its two city clubs for the first time in nearly 90 years. The last such clash came in the 1936/1937 season, when SK Židenice faced Moravská Slavia Brno.

Now both ambitious clubs — Zbrojovka and Artis — compete in the Czech top division, although as recently as a few seasons ago their meetings still took place in the second tier. Kick-off is set for 15:00, with the fan zone and its packed programme of activities opening four hours earlier.

Contrasting Starts to the Season

Zbrojovka have made a far more confident start to the campaign: after seven rounds, the club has collected 13 points and sits seventh in the table. Artis, meanwhile, have managed just four points so far and languish in thirteenth place.

"This is really about the fans first and foremost, and we want to give them something to celebrate. We're two clubs in one city, and many of the players know each other personally. Everything building up around this match feels bigger with each passing day. We want to paint the whole city in our colours," said Zbrojovka player Vašulín.

Artis defender Dominik Prajsler struck a more cautious tone: "Derbies are usually close affairs. Zbrojovka have been playing well, so it'll be tough, but you know how these things go. Anything can happen."
