Bus slams on brakes in Prague — six passengers hospitalized

On Tuesday afternoon in Prague, a bus braked sharply on Vídeňská Street near the junction with U Krčské nádraží Street, causing several passengers to fall inside the vehicle. Police reported the incident on the social network X.

“Several passengers fell inside the bus due to sudden braking, and some of them were injured. Vídeňská Street is closed in the direction of the city centre,” police said in a statement published shortly before 2 p.m.

According to Karel Kirs, a spokesperson for the emergency medical service, several ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene. In total, six people received medical assistance, most with minor injuries, and all were taken to Prague hospitals.

Police investigating the cause

Police are now looking into the circumstances and causes of the incident. According to preliminary information, the situation may have been affected by ongoing repair work on an underpass beneath the railway tracks near the scene, which has forced traffic to merge into a single lane. The right-hand lane is reserved for buses almost all the way to the underpass, but some car drivers fail to follow this rule and merge earlier than they should.
