Czech musician and songwriter Pavel Puta dies aged 78 in Czechia

Czech musician and songwriter Pavel Puta has died

On the evening of 12 October 2026, the Czech musician, composer and lyricist Pavel Puta died. He was 78. His friend and colleague Andy Seidl announced his death.

“Sad news: on the evening of 12 October my best friend and colleague Pavel Puta passed away – a wonderful musician, songwriter and lyricist, composer, and above all a kind and warm-hearted man. Pavel, thank you for everything, it was a great adventure,” Seidl wrote on social media.

Puta was born on 14 March 1948 in Pačejov in the Klatovy district. In the 1970s he played bass guitar in Svatopluk Čech’s orchestra, performed in the band Society, and then became one of the notable figures in a folk duo with Stanislav Staněk.

After the duo broke up, the musician was engaged at the Pod lampou theatre in Plzeň, and later founded the Parník theatre studio together with Seidl. He also played in several other groups, including the project Na vlastní uši band, where his partners were Seidl and the journalist Josef Klíma. The members performed only their own songs.

Puta also wrote lyrics, notably for the bands Katapult and Odyssea. He set a number of children’s poems to music, and his collaboration with the fairy-tale author Vítězslava Klimtová resulted in an album. In 2019 the musician released the record “Reparát” with songs to his own lyrics.

His last album Puta recorded with Na vlastní uši band shortly before his death; it will be released by the publisher Galén. The record’s producer was Václav Neckář Jr., who died in August of this year.
