Trump suggests naming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean after himself

US President Donald Trump suggested on Saturday, at a campaign rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean the “Trump Ocean” or the “Ocean of the Americas”. He did not announce any official renaming plan, and according to the British newspaper The Independent, the 80-year-old politician was joking. Fox News also reported on the speech.

“We have a gulf. We have a beautiful lake,” Trump told supporters, referring to the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario: he has already ordered federal agencies to call them the Gulf of America and the American Lake.

“We need an ocean. I thought we would call either the Atlantic or the Pacific the Trump Ocean or the Ocean of the Americas, something like that,” the president continued, who even before politics liked to put his name on buildings and golf courses. “Before I leave, I think we should have an ocean,” he added, mentioning as well the Strait of Hormuz, which might one day be named the “Trump Strait”.
