Driver shortage forces Prague Integrated Transport System to cancel buses near Roztoky and Kladno

On Thursday, many passengers planning to get to work on suburban buses run by the Prague Integrated Transport System (PID) ran into unexpected trouble. A number of services on routes serving the Kladno and Roztoky-u-Prahy areas were cancelled after carrier Arriva City found itself short of drivers to cover all its scheduled routes.

"If you have already travelled today, or are planning to travel, on one of our routes operated by the Kladno branch of Arriva City, you may unfortunately encounter cancellations of individual services. The reason is a shortage of drivers," PID representatives said on social media in the afternoon.

Some services were saved

According to PID, several longer routes were kept running thanks to help from other carriers. Where cuts could not be avoided, priority was given to lines with shorter intervals between departures, since cancelling a single trip there causes passengers less inconvenience.

The transport authority said it had been working non-stop since early morning to resolve the disruption. The main goal was to minimise the impact on passengers and preserve as much bus service as possible.

"We are updating the list of affected routes on our website and continuing to work closely with the carrier to keep disruptions to a minimum," PID concluded.
