Fire breaks out at ZVS Holding arms factory workshop in Slovakia

A major fire broke out on Wednesday in the Slovak town of Snina, on the grounds of the former Vihorlat plant, which now houses production facilities of the arms manufacturer ZVS Holding. The first smoke was spotted shortly after noon, and several fire engines were dispatched to the scene.

According to the local community group Dianie v Snine, which posted about the incident on social media, a large-scale fire has been recorded at the site. Thick black smoke can be seen from various parts of town. Citing the portal Noviny.sk, authorities in Snina have advised residents of nearby areas to limit time spent outdoors due to the possible spread of smoke and combustion by-products.

What plant is on fire

ZVS Holding is part of the Czechoslovak Group (CSG), owned by Czech billionaire Michal Strnad. The company specializes in producing large- and medium-caliber ammunition for tanks, artillery systems and multiple rocket launchers, as well as mortar rounds.

This is not the first fire at the workshops of the former Vihorlat plant — a similar blaze occurred there back in 2024.
