Houthis release video of downed Saudi F-15 fighter jet

Yemen's Houthi rebel movement has released a video that reportedly shows the destruction of a fighter jet, along with the charred wreckage of a Saudi Air Force F-15. The incident took place over Yemen's Marib province.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree earlier said the group had shot down the Saudi fighter jet in that same area, accusing Riyadh of carrying out roughly a hundred airstrikes across Yemeni territory, according to AFP.

Footage verified by journalists

The New York Times analyzed the released footage and concluded that the wreckage does indeed appear to belong to a Saudi Air Force F-15. However, the exact location where the remains of the aircraft were found could not be confirmed.

Saudi authorities have not responded to journalists' requests for comment. Meanwhile, two sources familiar with the situation confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the fighter jet was indeed shot down.

Attack on Mecca and the coalition's response

Earlier this week, Saudi air defenses intercepted a drone launched by Yemeni rebels, preventing it from entering the airspace over Mecca. This was reported by the Saudi-led coalition, citing Reuters. The Houthis have denied accusations of planning an attack on Mecca.
