Liberec signs forward Mikulenka from Olomouc for nearly CZK 25 million

Czech football club Slovan Liberec has announced the signing of forward Matěj Mikulenka from Olomouc. The player has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, with the transfer fee reportedly around CZK 25 million — a figure that could rise by as much as 50% to roughly CZK 37.5 million once bonuses are factored in.

If these figures are confirmed, it would rank as one of the most expensive signings in the club's history.

A versatile player with national team experience

“Matěj is a versatile player who can operate in any attacking position. He's a hard-working footballer with real potential, and there's still plenty of room for him to grow. Despite his young age, he already has solid experience playing in the Czech league and for the youth national teams. We believe he'll settle in quickly,” said Liberec's general manager Jan Nezmar.

Mikulenka started out playing football at Vlčovice-Mniší before making his top-flight debut with Olomouc two years ago. Since then, he has made 64 appearances in the Czech league, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists. However, he has barely featured this season, logging just 11 minutes of playing time, and wasn't even included in the squad for the recent match against Bohemians.

“I'm happy to be here. I want to make the best possible impression at Slovan, and I'm looking forward to meeting my new teammates. I'll do my best to be as productive as I can and help the team,” said the club's new signing, whose team currently sits in a strong position in the table this season.

Cover for an injured forward

Liberec recently lost forward Raimonds Krollis to injury for the rest of the season. Last week, the club already bolstered its attack with Croatian forward Enej Maršetić. Alongside the new arrivals, the attacking lineup still features Lukáš Mašek, in-form utility man Vasil Kušej, and Daniel Rus. Matěj Mikulenka now joins their ranks. The forward could make his debut for his new club as early as Saturday, when second-placed Liberec host third-placed Mladá Boleslav at home.
