Man attacks relative in Otovice, Karlovy Vary Region, and flees; police search area with helicopter

A brutal domestic attack took place in the village of Otovice in the Karlovy Vary Region, where a man attacked a female relative before fleeing the scene, police spokeswoman said.

According to her, the injured woman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital by helicopter. The suspect fled the house after the attack, prompting police to launch a large-scale search involving dozens of officers, a helicopter and other equipment, as the surrounding area is being combed.

Police have not disclosed exactly how the man attacked the woman or whether he used a weapon. The suspect has been identified as Miroslav Karas — at the time of his escape he was wearing dark shorts and a grey short-sleeved T-shirt.

Police are urging residents that if anyone spots this man, they should under no circumstances try to detain him themselves, and should instead call 158 immediately. “The man is not believed to be armed, but do not try to apprehend him yourselves,” the police spokeswoman stressed.
