Man beats wife to severe head injuries in Otovice — she was airlifted by rescue helicopter

In the village of Otovice in the Karlovy Vary region, a 41-year-old man brutally beat his wife, who is the same age, striking her repeatedly in the face with his fists. The woman suffered extremely severe head injuries and had to be airlifted by a medical rescue helicopter to the University Hospital in Pilsen-Lochotín. This was reported by police spokeswoman Kateřina Pešková.

Argument turns into brutal beating

According to the police spokeswoman, the attack was preceded by a verbal dispute between the spouses. The man then struck his wife repeatedly and forcefully in the face. Simona Krajnová, spokeswoman for the regional rescue service, noted that the victim was placed on a ventilator at the scene before being handed over to the air ambulance crew for transport to the hospital.

Fled the scene, detained in central Karlovy Vary

Police received the report of the attack around midday and immediately launched a search for the man, who had fled the house. Investigators managed to track down the suspect that same evening in a shop in the centre of Karlovy Vary. Police administered rapid alcohol and drug tests, both of which came back negative.

The man was taken into police custody, and on Sunday he was formally charged. Investigators are expected to soon file a request with the prosecutor's office to have the suspect remanded in custody. Under the preliminary classification, he faces charges of attempted murder.
