Man Swindled Out of Half a Million Crowns in Rolex Watch Swap in South Bohemia

Police in South Bohemia are searching for a con artist who swindled a man during a high-end watch exchange. The victim's losses amounted to nearly half a million crowns, according to South Bohemian police spokesman Jiří Macner.

According to him, the victim had arranged to meet in person with a man who introduced himself as Maroš from Slovakia. The meeting took place on 30 July at a local restaurant. The plan was to swap luxury watches: the victim brought an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, while the other man brought a Rolex Daytona.

A Fake Instead of the Real Thing

The exchange went ahead at the restaurant, but it later emerged that the Rolex handed over didn't match the documents meant to prove its authenticity and purchase. Police cannot yet confirm whether the man received a high-quality counterfeit or a stolen genuine watch.

Description of the Suspect

When they met, the wanted man presented a forged Slovak ID. He spoke Czech with a slight accent, appeared to be around thirty years old, wore hearing aids in both ears, and had a tattoo on the back of his wrist.

Police say it's possible the man has offered similar deals to other people, or that someone else may have already encountered him. Anyone with information about the suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to contact the police hotline at 158. He is believed to travel in a white Hyundai with Austrian license plates.
