Oslo Mayor Postpones Wedding Following Death of Norway

Oslo Mayor Anne Lindboe has postponed her own wedding indefinitely following the death of Norway's King Harald V, the BBC reports. The mayor declined to publicly comment on her decision to call off the celebration, instead sharing a tribute to the late monarch on social media.

"It is hard to imagine Oslo and Norway without you. You didn't need a crown to be a king. Even most Norwegians who never met you personally felt as though they knew you," Lindboe wrote in her post.

Harald V died on Friday at the age of 89 from a bacterial infection of the bloodstream. He ascended to the Norwegian throne — where the monarch serves largely ceremonial duties as head of state — in January 1991. Following his death, the crown passed the same day to his son, who now reigns as King Haakon VIII.
