Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has effectively admitted that the Russian army is now striking virtually every possible type of target on Ukrainian territory. According to him, Russian forces began acting this way only after the Ukrainian side itself "opened Pandora's box", the Ukrainian news agency Unian reports.
Peskov was referring to a speech by Vladimir Putin on August 22, in which the Russian president accused Ukraine of escalating the war by attacking warehouses belonging to the Russian online retailers Wildberries and Ozon. "The Kyiv regime set itself the goal of damaging our economy. And what did it do? It opened this Pandora's box itself. Well then, get ready for corresponding measures that will affect the most sensitive sectors of your economy," the Russian leader said at the time.
According to the Ukrainian outlet Kyiv Independent, in recent weeks the Russian military has significantly increased the number of jet-powered attack drones used in strikes on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, has effectively been under almost continuous Russian drone attacks for more than a week now.
In addition, Russia continues its systematic strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing large-scale damage to critical facilities and repeated power outages across the country.
