Plastic recycling plant burns down in Rýnholec, Rakovník district — damage estimated at up to CZK 400 million

On Friday, at around 4:00 p.m., a plastic waste recycling plant caught fire at a landfill site in the village of Rýnholec in the Rakovník district. According to Tereza Sýkorová Flígrová, spokeswoman for the Central Bohemian Region's fire brigade, the scale of the blaze prompted authorities to declare the third, highest level of fire alert.

Twenty-three fire units took part in extinguishing the fire. In addition to fighting the flames, firefighters worked to protect nearby buildings located close to the burning facility.

Chemical lab deployed at the scene

A chemical laboratory team from Kamenice was called in to monitor for possible hazardous emissions and help firefighters track air pollution levels. According to firefighters' preliminary estimates, the damage could reach between CZK 300 and 400 million.

Local authorities also reported the fire on social media, urging residents: "A fire has broken out — please keep your windows closed and do not ventilate your homes."

This is not the first major fire at the Rýnholec landfill — in April last year, firefighters were already called out to tackle a blaze in the section containing plastic waste.
