Poland Scrambles Fighter Jets Over Threat of Russian Air Strike

On Sunday morning, Poland's Operational Command announced that military aircraft had been scrambled into the country's airspace due to Russian drone activity targeting Ukraine. According to the command, jets and other available assets were deployed, while ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on heightened alert.

Authorities stressed that all measures were purely precautionary.

"Take Cover!" — Residents Warned

Shortly afterwards, Poland's Government Security Centre issued a direct appeal to citizens. "Attention! Attention! Attention! There is a threat of an air strike. Take cover in a safe place. Follow the instructions of local services. Await further updates," the centre said in a post on X.

According to the agency, an air raid alert was issued in six districts of the Lublin Voivodeship, with authorities sending warning messages to residents in those areas. The districts affected were Włodawa, Łęczna, Świdnik, Chełm and Krasnystaw.

At 9:44 a.m., Poland's Operational Command announced the end of the air force operation. "We have not recorded any violation of the airspace of the Republic of Poland," the command said in its statement.

Massive Drone Attack on Ukraine

Ukraine's Air Force reported on Sunday morning that Russia had launched 453 drones at Ukraine, of which 405 were shot down. The strikes hit, among other places, the Khmelnytskyi region in the west of the country, where, according to Ukrainian sources, an industrial facility was damaged.

Odesa was also hit, with a local post office building and a high-rise residential building among the targets. Reports indicate that one person was killed and 26 others injured in the strike on the high-rise.
