Polish Foreign Minister: Europe Would Quickly Defeat Russia in the Event of War

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has said that if Russia were to attack, European countries would crush it very quickly thanks to their overwhelming air superiority — even without counting American forces. He made the remark in Kyiv at a conference on ending the war between Ukraine and Russia, attended by more than 700 politicians from 28 countries, according to the TVP news portal.

Betting on strikes against oil refining

According to Sikorski, the involvement of European armies would deal a devastating blow not only to the Russian military but also to the country's oil industry. The minister recalled that over the past six months, Ukraine had knocked out half of Russia's oil refineries. "We would knock out the other half within six weeks," he said.

The Polish official acknowledged that diplomatic negotiations could bring the conflict to an end, but stressed this is just one possible scenario. In his view, the war could simply fizzle out once Putin runs out of resources to continue it. To bring that about, Sikorski argued, Ukraine should focus primarily on striking oil refineries.

Putin's ambitions are unattainable

Successful peace talks, the head of Polish diplomacy said, require understanding the other side's goals. He acknowledged that Russian President Vladimir Putin had harbored lofty ambitions — to reverse the consequences of the Soviet Union's collapse and turn Russia back into a superpower, part of a trio alongside the US and China running the world. "I think he already understands that this is unattainable," Sikorski concluded.
