Poll: ANO and Motorists Losing Support as Opposition Gains Ground

According to a new poll by the STEM agency, the ruling ANO movement continues to shed support, while the Motorists for Themselves party risks failing to enter the Chamber of Deputies altogether. Meanwhile, opposition parties are gaining momentum.

"It's still too early to talk about STAN chairman Vít Rakušan as the leader of the opposition, but the opposition as a whole is growing stronger," STEM analyst Martin Kratochvíl said, commenting on the poll results.

How the parties stand

According to the survey, the STAN movement would take 14.8% of the vote, the Civic Democrats (ODS) 12.8%, and the Pirates 7.3%. Two other opposition parties fall short of entering parliament: TOP 09 with 3.3% and the Christian Democrats with 2.6%.

Compared to STEM's June poll, ANO has lost one percentage point. The Motorists are faring even worse — their support has dropped from 5.3% to 4.9%, meaning the party currently would not clear the threshold needed to enter the Chamber of Deputies.

Okamura pleased with the results

SPD chairman Tomio Okamura offered a different take on the poll while speaking on CNN Prima News. "Together with our coalition partners we have 10 percent, and our parliamentary faction has shown sharp growth," he said.

His movement's result is close to what it achieved in last year's election. Back then, however, SPD ran in an undeclared coalition with smaller parties — PRO, the Free Citizens, and Tricolour.
