Rapper and graphic designer Jan Berka of DBKL dies

Musician and graphic designer Jan Berka, known as a member of the Czech alternative rap group DBKL, has died. The news was announced on the Facebook page of the project DBKL: Ржемдих & Benzín.

"We're deeply sorry, and it still hasn't quite sunk in that we have to write this, but last Tuesday Honza left us. Please remember him and his loved ones — light a candle, put on a song. Take care of yourselves," the band wrote in its statement.

A career in alternative rap

DBKL worked in the alternative rap genre. In 2015, the group released the album "Věc," and in 2022, together with the production duo MNDT, they put out the record "Prototyp." Jan Berka served as the group's composer and lyricist, and the band frequently collaborated with other music projects.

Remembered at the school where he taught

Berka was also bid farewell at the school where he worked. According to the school, he graduated from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty in Pilsen and became not just a technologist but a talented graphic artist. A turning point in his teaching career came in 2020, when he began working with Josef Fiala — together they formed an inseparable creative and professional duo at the school's print centre.
