Rare Shelby Cobra worth 2 million crowns bursts into flames while driving near Brno

On Saturday evening in the town of Slavkov u Brna, a car caught fire while still in motion. According to fire department spokesman Jan Dvořák, the owner managed to stop in time and get out before the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within ten minutes of receiving the call. Once the car was removed, the road was cleared, and the crew's intervention wrapped up after 10 p.m.

A rare sports car and its price tag

The burned-out vehicle turned out to be a Shelby Cobra — according to preliminary estimates from the fire department, the damage amounts to roughly 2 million crowns. Original examples of this 1960s model are highly prized by collectors, though even more affordable replicas and modern continuation models still cost upwards of a million crowns.

The legendary British-American sports car, the AC Cobra, was produced from 1962 to 1967. It was the brainchild of racer and designer Carroll Shelby, who paired a lightweight British chassis with a powerful American Ford V8 engine.
