Rockstar Confirms GTA VI Gameplay Leak: "It Was Heartbreaking"

Rockstar Confirms GTA VI Gameplay Leak:

Rockstar Games has officially responded to the leaked GTA VI gameplay footage that has been spreading across the internet and social media in recent days. In an open letter to fans, the studio implicitly confirmed the footage was genuine and called the incident "heartbreaking" for the entire team.

"It would be an understatement to say that seeing the Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay video leak the way it did has been heartbreaking for our team," the studio's statement reads. The developers stressed that they never intended for players to first see the long-awaited game through unofficial footage, and admitted the leak could affect how the game is perceived due to the spoilers it contains.

"It Took Too Long"

Rockstar also apologized to the community for the prolonged silence around official information about the game. According to the developers, finishing the game itself and preparing accompanying materials took longer than originally expected.

"We're very sorry it's taken this long — both to finish the game, which we are now close to doing, and to share new materials, official footage, and all the information you want to know about the game," the studio's message states. Rockstar promised to do everything possible to meet, and even exceed, the enormous expectations fans have for one of the most anticipated game releases of our time.

Will the Leak Ruin the Surprise?

The developers acknowledged that the leak may spoil the experience for some players, but expressed hope that fans will hold out a little longer and discover the key story moments in the game itself. "While we're sorry that the experience we set out to create may now be affected by some spoilers for some, we hope you'll all still wait and try the game for yourselves on November 19," Rockstar's statement reads.

The studio also thanked the gaming community for the messages of support sent to the developers in recent days. "Your words meant more to this team than you can imagine," the letter says. "At the end of the day, we make this game for you, and without you we wouldn't have the privilege of making it at all."

After several delays, the official launch of GTA VI is now set for November 19, though initially only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders for the base version are available through the consoles' digital stores for 2,009 CZK, with an Ultimate Edition also on offer for 2,499 CZK. The PC version will follow at a later date, with no release date announced yet.
