Russia strikes central Odesa: second strike hits rescuers on scene

Russian forces struck central Odesa, with a follow-up attack hitting the site just as rescuers were dealing with the aftermath of the first strike and helping the injured. Odesa region governor Oleh Kiper reported the attack.

According to him, ten people were injured in total, three of whom were hospitalized, while the rest received medical treatment on the spot. Two rescuers are among the wounded, according to the Ukrainian outlet Ukrainska Pravda.

Fire in the building already extinguished

Local authorities have already put out the fire that engulfed several floors of the building. They say the strike hit a crowded area in the city center.

The Telegram channel of public broadcaster Suspilne posted footage filmed after the attack, showing a large hole in the side wall of the building — the mark left by a jet-powered drone.

Regular strikes on the port city

Russia has not yet commented on the strike on Odesa. The Russian military regularly hits various targets across Ukraine, and Odesa, as a strategic port city, remains a frequent target.

On Friday, Russia's Defense Ministry said a tanker carrying fuel and lubricants for the Ukrainian army had been hit in the port of Odesa. Moscow also claimed that Russian forces attacked a vessel heading to Odesa with cargo for the Ukrainian military in the Black Sea, as well as struck a similar vessel in the port of Yuzhny.
