Wednesday turned out to be one of the deadliest days on Czech roads in recent times: according to police statistics, as of 2:30 pm, six people had died in accidents across various regions of the country.
Morning tragedies in several regions
The first fatal crash occurred in the morning on the D35 motorway in the Pardubice Region, killing a 51-year-old truck driver. Almost simultaneously, in Kolín, a passenger died after a car collided with a truck.
Another morning accident claimed the life of a car driver near the village of Krhov in the Blansko district, after a collision with a truck. In the Rychnov nad Kněžnou district, both drivers were killed when two cars collided head-on.
The death toll rose in the afternoon
The tragic tally grew further in the afternoon: not far from the site of the morning crash near Krhov, a car collided with a truck, killing yet another person.
In total, according to police data, six people lost their lives on Czech roads in a single day, in several separate accidents involving both cars and trucks.
