Mass Brawl at Znojmo Beach: Police Investigate Disorderly Conduct as City Considers Bans for Offenders

On Tuesday, a mass brawl involving around thirty people broke out at the crowded Loucky public beach in Znojmo, Czechia. According to the South Moravian Region police, no one was injured, but the participants' behaviour was deemed unacceptable, and the incident is now being investigated as disorderly conduct.

"We received a report of a fight involving roughly thirty people. Calls like this bring out all available units, since there are hundreds more people nearby. By the time we arrived, there were somewhat fewer than thirty people fighting, but their conduct was still unacceptable," said police spokesman Pavel Švab. He added that officers have already requested CCTV footage to establish exactly what happened.

City hall's response and a ban for one suspect

Znojmo Mayor František Koudela said the CCTV footage would be key evidence in clarifying the circumstances. He noted that this apparently isn't the first time conflict has flared up between these particular people. The mayor stressed that he didn't want to jump to conclusions before the investigation is complete, but that the rules must apply equally to everyone. The person currently under investigation has already been barred from the beach for the duration of the inquiry.

"We are working out all possible measures in case of serious or repeated breaches of order in the future. The beach must remain a safe place for all visitors," the mayor added.

Residents complain of recurring conflicts

Local residents say incidents like this happen regularly at the beach. Many wrote to the mayor about it in social media comments, while others shared their concerns anonymously. "I don't go to that beach, and neither do my family or friends. Similar problems happen there often, so it's the last place I'd go," one local woman said. Another resident, a man in his fifties, admitted he avoids the spot along with his acquaintances, preferring to use his own pool or his cottage at Vranov instead.

City authorities turn to the Interior Ministry

Deputy Mayor Jakub Malačka said current Czech law gives cities almost no power to ban specific offenders from public spaces, so he has appealed directly to the Ministry of the Interior for guidance. City officials want to know how to determine a reasonable length for a ban, how to keep track of offenders, how to verify identity at the entrance, and what to do about children under 15 who don't carry ID — according to the official, this last point is one of the trickiest issues.

According to the Znojmo municipal police, only one incident has been officially recorded at Loucky beach this summer season — a verbal dispute between visitors that was resolved on the spot. City hall spokeswoman Petra Šulaková noted that crime-prevention assistants are on duty at the beach every day, keeping an eye on order and stepping in quickly whenever disagreements arise. Municipal police have also been called to the beach a few times, though as a preventive measure rather than to deal with specific offences.
