Young woman dies bungee jumping in abandoned quarry in Germany

A 21-year-old woman from Aschersleben died while bungee jumping in an abandoned quarry in Warstein, Germany. Police initially believed it was a climbing accident, but on Sunday a police spokesperson corrected the account in an interview with the WDR broadcaster: “She did not fall, she hit the rock wall during the jump”.

It happened on Saturday at around 5:15 p.m. The woman had come to the quarry with four friends from Saxony-Anhalt. The site is not an official climbing area: according to police, the young people had rigged up the bungee jump themselves.

The woman suffered critical injuries, and rescuers desperately tried to resuscitate her, but without success. Her four friends, according to Bild, were in shock and received support from fire service chaplains.
